There are 226 employees of the Humboldt City School system. Each one is positioned to make a radical difference in the lives of young people. From the teacher in the classroom to the crossing guard on the street, these workers offer themselves to help young people navigate their way through the impressionable years of childhood, adolescence and young adulthood. As a follower of Christ, you and I are called to stand in the gap for those on the front lines of service. I invite you to join me as one who will intentionally undergird one of these workers.
This is not an assignment to be taken lightly. If you want to be an encouraging partner consider the following.
Receive a random assigned leader
Agree to pray for them daily or regularly.
Be willing to send them an occasional note, via email, text, or regular mail, attaching an encouraging word from Scripture.
Invest in them personally; get to know things about them, their family, their birthday, their anniversary, their favorite things, their most difficult challenges.
Send them small gifts on their birthday, Christmas, etc. A gift card to their favorite restaurant for example.
Plan on inviting them to join you in an annual appreciation dinner where we will open God’s Word to them and encourage them to have round table discussions about the challenge of living out their faith at school. If this is an opportunity you want to seize, please respond to email@example.com with your name, church name, email address, and cell phone number. You will receive your assignment when ALL 226 employees are being covered. If you volunteer and are number 227 you will be added to a waiting list for new hires. This is a spiritual work and must be seen as such.
Our family of faith is the light of Jesus among our families, friends, neighbors, co-workers, schoolmates, and acquaintances. We desire to reflect God's love and message and take every opportunity to share the love of Jesus to those around us.
